Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of our study, and you are welcome to contact us directly to become part of the project. To take part, you simply need to be between the ages of 35 and 69 and live in Atlantic Canada.

When you volunteer, we will mail you an invitation package that includes an appointment time for your visit to our Assessment Centre, a leaflet containing more information about the Atlantic Path, and a brief medical questionnaire we’d like you to complete and bring with you to your appointment.

At the Centre, you will answer a few more questions about your health, diet and lifestyle. You will also provide blood, urine, saliva, and toenail samples and have some standard physical measurements taken.

In addition, in Nova Scotia, some people will be randomly selected from the Medical Services Insurance (MSI) database to receive an invitation until participants contact the Atlantic Path team. The invitation packages will be mailed on our behalf by Medavie Blue Cross.

To maintain confidentiality of the MSI database, no information about those randomly selected is shared with the Atlantic Path. Our staff does not know who has received an invitation until participants arrive at our Assessment Centre.
